It's family owned and operated business for more than 7 years. Our family (Barney, Elizabeth, Sam & Gabe) moved to the Big Island in 2001 when our youngest son Sammy was one month old, and big brother Gabe was 18 months old. We wanted our kids to have a great place to grow up, surrounded by animals and trees and the beauty of Mother Nature. Of course we would never want to feed our children food or animals grown with pesticides or poisons of any kind, nor would we want to feed them to you or your children either! Therefore we founded our Organic farm `Ai Lani Orchards,(meaning ‘to eat heaven’ or ‘spiritual food’) on the Southernmost point of the Big Island, just upland from the last 80 mile stretch of undeveloped coastline in Hawaii. Our mild climate offers the perfect amount of sun and rain. The deep, rich, volcanic soil of our lava zone 6 area, in the Ka`u district provides the perfect growing condition for our smooth organic coffee, delectable macadamia nut, and juicy citrus. It is wonderful to live in such an environment and to be caretakers of this precious land.
Everything grown on our orchard, which includes, coffee, macadamia
nuts, and tropical fruit, supersedes the USDA organic certification as it is
100% chemical and pesticide free. We call it “beyond organic” (USDA
certification only requires 95%) We grow six varieties of avocados and nearly
every citrus. These include lemons, limes, tangerines, tangelos,
grapefruit, and the famous Ka'u orange. Our tropical fruits include apple
bananas, pineapples, star fruit, and guava.
